Breathe...

For as long as memory serves, the STA Speaks has played an important, albeit infrequent, role in the development of a strong collegial bond between our association members. Throughout its two-page, quarterly-published life, the "Speaks" was the traditional forum through which the President would share an overview of the weeks passed and the weeks and months to come, and share a message of hope.

Aside from that however, its role as an informative digest has become less pertinent as time and technology have marched along their mutual path of progress. And as we are tied inextricably to that same path, we change as well. Welcome to the new STA Speaks.

As we ride toward the cusp of a new year and pause just long enough to reconnect with family and friends, we look briefly behind and hard ahead, and remember what it feels like to breathe. If only for a moment. Because a moment is all we can allow. There is so much left to do.

But we owe it to ourselves, and to our evening and weekend family, to tune out the noise. By this time of year the noise has become so constant and consistent that we feel immune to it, but in actuality what we're feeling is something more akin to numbness than resistance. So when the day comes next week, water the plants, close the door, and turn the key. And don't look back. It will all still be here in January.

This year has been an especially difficult one for a few of our members and their families. For them we offer our prayers, our strength, our friendship, and our hope for a long and lustrous spring.
